Hoian Ancient Town

After the Thu Bon River linking Hoi An to the sea silted up ocean going ships were no longer able to sail into town and trade moved 30km up the coast to Tourane, known nowadays as Danang.

In the 16th & 17th centuries, Hoi An was a bustling international commercial port of Viet Nam that saw much change and diversity in its history. It still features varied architecture; a lively museum and a harmonious mix of Vietnamese, Japanese & Chinese cultures. Yearly held traditional festivals highlight the attractions of this ancient area.

Despite the passing of 200 years and the ravages of the weather and war, the centre of Hoi An remains much the same as it was in its heyday. A walking tour is the best way to see the wooden-fronted houses that once belonged to the town's prosperous merchants, the Japanese-covered Bridge, temples and museum and the colorful market. Hoi An is one of the best places in Vietnam to shop for souvenirs at bargain prices including silk, handicrafts, antiques and paintings.

08.00AM: Our guide and driver picks up you at hotel and drive to Hoian, 35 kilometres from Danang. On arrival in Hoian, taking a walking tour of the ancient town centre to visit former merchant's houses, museum and the 400 year-old Japanese Covered Bridge and the colourful market. Lunch at a local restaurant with Hoian specialities. Afternoon, take a boat trip on Hoian river (2 hours) visit Hoian traditional craft villages such as Kim Bong capentry, Thanh Ha ceramics and Eastuary Beach. Indulge in shopping. Drive back to Danang.
