Located in Central Vietnam, "Danang" is the fourth largest city and also an important port. Historically it is relatively new compared to the rest of Vietnam, whose history dates back 4,000 years.
Danang's history goes back only 300 years and it is a relatively young city. Being a port, Danang is well connected to other cities by sea and air as well as road and rail. In the American War it served as an important South Vietnamese airbase. However, today the French influence is more evident when you see the tree decked avenues and colonial houses.
Danang has some interesting attractions of its own, such as China Beach or Monkey Mountain, not just as a stepping stone for trips to Hue, Hoi An and other nearby attractions.

It is home to the extraordinary Cham Museum which has magnificent Cham art and ancient pagodas of Hai Chau Pho Da Long Tho. Danang is surrounded by world cultural heritage sites such as Hue and Hoi An. Tourists are a boon to Danang's economy and the city's two imposing bridges, the Song Han Bridge and Nguyen Van Troi Bridge, stand testimony to Danang's important role in Vietnam's economy. The Han Bridge on the River Han was built with the contribution of the people of Danang and hence has a special place in the hearts of the people. It is the first swing bridge in Vietnam and facilitates transportation for Danang's economic development. It is also a cultural place for tourists to visit.
Danang is a splendid place for visitors. The beach on Lang Co is on a sand spit peninsula with a spotless lagoon on one side, and a long beach traversing the South China Sea on the other. This is one of the most beautiful places in Vietnam, and is yet to achieve its potential as a tourist spot. While travelling between Lang Co and Danang, you go by the Hai Van Pass. This pass was created by a ridge from the Truong Son Mountain Range that extends to the coast. The drive through this mountainous region provides some spectacular views. It is also a risky drive, so do make sure you take someone who knows the route well. The Son Tra peninsula is another must-see tourist destination.
The peninsula is surrounded by the Da stream, Bai But, Bai Bac, Bai Nom and 20 other streams which provide clean water. The Son Tra spring water is a resource for export. The alluvial plains are extremely picturesque and the Bai But and Bai Nam beaches have some interesting coral sites. The SonTra peninsula has a lot of potential as an eco-tourism destination because it is home to a variety of flora and fauna. Don't miss the Marble Mountains, a cluster of five mountains located south of Danang. These are named after the five elements in nature. This is also a region of Buddhist sanctuaries.
